Why Should I Meditate?

Are you feeling stressed? Are your days feeling chaotic because you’re having a hard time concentrating? The good news is, it doesn’t have to be that way! Meditating for only 10 minutes each day can reduce stress along with many other health benefits.

Stress-We all experience stress, but it’s how we deal with it that matters. Meditation helps reduce stress by calming down our nervous system and reducing cortisol levels (a stress hormone produced by the adrenal glands). We often don’t give ourselves true down time, so meditating forces us to slow everything down. Calming down the mind, emotions, and the body has been found to reduce stress levels.

Positive Mindset– If we meditate in the morning it helps set a positive mindset throughout the day. You can reduce negative thoughts and focus more on the positives. It hits the refresh button on your outlook.

Focus-Meditating can improve focus, attention, and help you ignore those addictive daily distractions like Instagram and Facebook.

Anxiety– Meditation can decease anxiety by helping you focus on the present rather than daily worries. You give your mind a break from over thinking and by letting go.

Pain– Chronic pain can be reduced by meditation. I wish I had done this when I was taking lots of medications for my Arthritis and Lyme disease. I probably could have reduced my pain medication intake.

Sleep-People who have trouble sleeping may find that it’s easier to fall asleep and stay asleep.

Sound good? Try meditating first thing in the morning either sitting or lying down. This will help you create a positive intention for the day. My suggestion is to start with guided meditations. (You can find them on YouTube or download an app). I like to meditate before I get out of bed. I never liked mornings until I started meditating and now I actually look forward to having quiet time to myself. I start my day grounded with renewed energy. Get meditating and make it part of your routine so it becomes a habit. Don’t force it. Let it come to you.
